Amman, Sept. 8 (Petra) – A 12-nation coalition announced on Tuesday
plans to sanction goods from illegal Israeli settlements.

In a joint statement, foreign ministers from Canada, Denmark,
Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain,
Sweden, and the UK warned that escalating settler violence and
settlement expansion, specifically the illegal E1 settlement tender,
are “crippling prospects for long-term peace.”

The statement added that signatories are pursuing restrictions on
settlement trade in accordance with the principles set out in the UN
New York Declaration.

While Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, and Belgium already
initiated similar trade actions, the UK, France, and Canada welcomed
these measures and pledged to enact their own bans on settlement
imports.

Opposing all acts of de facto annexation and forcible displacement,
the 12 nations urged the Israeli government to freeze settlement
expansion, halt the transfer of civil administrative powers, curb
settler violence, and hold perpetrators accountable.

Based on UN Security Council resolutions, the ministers stated that
an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel is the “only viable
path” to lasting peace.
