Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra) — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has
begun removing tree obstructions planted on sidewalks that impede
pedestrian movement to enhance public safety and ensure optimal
facility use.

According to a statement released on Thursday, the initiative forms
part of GAM’s broader effort to create a more suitable urban and
healthy environment by removing obstacles that restrict pedestrian
flow, specifically taking into account the needs of the elderly,
children, individuals with disabilities, and stroller users.

The project aims to improve urban quality of life by fostering an
accessible environment that encourages residents to walk,
particularly within residential neighborhoods, promoting a healthier
lifestyle for citizens and visitors.

Municipal crews are assessing tree sites based on sidewalk width,
location dynamics, and pedestrian traffic requirements. Action is
being taken against trees that obstruct movement, damage sidewalk
infrastructure, or block sightlines for traffic signs and directional
boards.

GAM clarified that removing select trees does not signal a departure
from its commitment to expanding green spaces, but rather serves to
reorganize urban planting to better suit site conditions and
municipal infrastructure requirements.
