Amman, Sept. 13 (Petra) – Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi met on
Sunday with Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force
President (MENAFATF) Hamid Zaabi to discuss expanding cooperation
against money laundering, terrorism financing, and financial crimes.

Qadi framed the visit as a “valuable opportunity” to exchange
expertise and adopt best practices for countering emerging financial
crimes, voicing Parliament’s commitment to backing regulatory bodies
against illicit financial activity.

He stated that Jordan established an advanced legislative framework
to regulate financial reporting and govern the Anti-Money Laundering
and Counter Terrorist Financing Unit. He also pointed to the
Integrity and Anti-Corruption Law as a primary pillar in enhancing
oversight, tracking illicit enrichment, and preventing the
concealment of illegal assets.

Effective legislation, Qadi said, requires robust implementation,
seamless inter-agency coordination, and strong international
cooperation to track assets, exchange information, and provide mutual
legal assistance. He noted that Parliament will continue its
legislative and oversight roles to protect the national economy and
keep pace with evolving financial crime methods.

Zaabi, for his part, lauded Jordan’s progress in developing its
national anti-financial crime system, noting that the Kingdom
successfully translated its international commitments into concrete
laws and practices.

He commended Jordan’s active engagement with MENAFATF and its role in
boosting joint regional responses to financial crimes.
