Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) — The Jordan Olympic Committee has selected
national karate team players Joud al-Dhroos and Abdulrahman
al-Masatfeh to carry the Jordanian flag at the 20th Asian Games’
opening ceremony in Nagoya, Japan, on Sept. 19.
Jordan is fielding a squad of about 70 athletes competing across 16
sports: gymnastics, triathlon, karate, cycling, weightlifting,
equestrian, jiu-jitsu, basketball, fencing, tennis, boxing, E-sports,
taekwondo, mixed martial arts, squash and climbing.
Competition at the Games already began on Sept. 10 with basketball
matches, ahead of the formal opening. The opening ceremony will take
place at Nagoya City, Paloma Mizuho Stadium on Saturday, at noon,
Amman time.
Jordan has taken part in the Asian Games since the 1986 Seoul
edition, amassing 54 medals over nine previous appearances, five
gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze.
