Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) – Funding for World Food Programme (WFP)
operations in Sudan has plummeted by roughly half this year, even as
the ongoing conflict drives millions more into severe hunger, WFP
Acting Executive Director Carl Skau warned on Monday.
The spreading conflict in the Middle East has pushed up operational
costs while causing international aid budgets to plummet, according
to Skau. As a result, catastrophic funding gaps have replaced
physical access restrictions as the primary obstacle to relief
efforts in Sudan.
The agency received $645 million for its Sudan response last year.
However, nearly three-quarters through the current year, funding has
reached just $206 million.
