Amman, Sept. 15 (Petra) — Jordan will host the World Masters
Wrestling Championships at Princess Sumaya Hall in Al Hussein Youth
City from Oct. 6-11, with about 527 athletes representing 50
countries expected to compete.

The championship is expected to attract around 3,000 participants,
including athletes, families, accompanying delegations, and fans,
highlighting Jordan’s growing standing on the global wrestling map
and its ability to host major international sporting events.

The Jordan Wrestling Federation has prepared a tourism program for
participating delegations featuring visits to several historical and
tourist sites, including Bethany Beyond the Jordan, Petra, the Roman
Theater, and the Dead Sea.

The event will highlight the careers of former wrestling champions
and provide younger generations with an opportunity to learn from
their experiences. It will also promote the importance of sport and
physical activity throughout life, with athletes aged 35 to 60 taking
part.

The participating countries are Jordan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan,
Albania, Armenia, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic,
Egypt, Finland, France, Britain, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary,
India, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi
Arabia, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Moldova, Mexico, Mongolia,
Namibia, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Romania, South Africa,
Russia, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Türkiye, Ukraine,
Uzbekistan, the United States, Belarus, Croatia, Spain, and Estonia.

Mohammad Awamleh, President of the Jordanian and Asian Wrestling
Federations, said Jordan is seeking to stage an exceptional edition
that reflects its sporting standing and the confidence placed in the
Kingdom by the international wrestling federation.

He said the scale of participation reflects the progress of wrestling
in Jordan, adding that the federation is coordinating with national
institutions to provide the best conditions for athletes,
delegations, referees, and other participants and ensure the
championship sets a high standard for hosting major international
sporting events.

Awamleh said the championship will also provide an opportunity to
promote Jordan and showcase its tourism, cultural, and heritage
attractions, stressing that participating delegations will find a
safe environment and destinations reflecting the Kingdom’s history
and civilization.
