Amman, Sept. 15 (Petra) – The Ministry of Planning and International
Cooperation signed on Tuesday two financing agreements with the
German Development Bank (KfW) amounting to a total of 96.5 million
euros to support Jordan’s priorities in the education and water
sectors.

The first agreement provides a 36.5 million euro grant to fund the
third phase of the Accelerating Access of Syrian Refugee Children to
Formal Education in Jordan program, expanding Syrian refugee
children’s access to formal education and easing pressure on the
Kingdom’s school system.

The second accord allocates 60 million euros towards the Adaptation
and Protection Against Climate Change Impacts: Azraq Wellfield and
Main Transmission Line program, funding the rehabilitation of the
Azraq-to-Khou main transmission line, upgrading associated pumping
infrastructure, and mitigating salinity in the Azraq wellfield.

Planning Minister Zeina Toukan and KfW official Jan Wiegelmann signed
the agreement.

Toukan hailed the strategic partnership between Amman and Berlin,
noting that this cooperation showcases Germany’s continued support
for Jordan’s development priorities.

The minister said that these agreements align with the Kingdom’s
Economic Modernization Vision, underpinning national priorities in
water security and education while driving government-led reform
pathways.

German Ambassador to Jordan Bertram von Moltke, for his part, said,
“With the two agreements signed today, we are proud to support Jordan
in two of its main challenges: to provide quality education for all
children and to sustain the drinking water supply for the country.

“Germany continues to be a strong and reliable partner to Jordan. In
July 2026, we underscored the importance of our partnership,
consolidating our development cooperation with a total commitment of
up to 684 million euros over the next two years,” he continued.
