Cairo, Sept. 16 (Petra) — Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy
on Wednesday condemned an attempted drone attack on Makkah by Houthi
militia, after Saudi authorities said they intercepted and destroyed
the drone before it entered the holy city’s restricted airspace.

In a statement, Fahmy said any threat to Makkah’s security and the
sanctity of Islamic holy sites is “extremely dangerous” as it
threatens Saudi Arabia’s security and the safety of its citizens,
residents and pilgrims, and is a provocation against Muslims
worldwide.

He said the attack is part of ongoing escalation by the Houthis, who
have targeted Saudi territory, facilities and civilian sites in
recent days, deepening regional tension.

Fahmy called for an end to the attacks and adherence to international
law, the U.N. Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions,
particularly Resolution 2216 (2015), which demands the Houthis
refrain from threats against neighboring states.

Fahmy stressed that Saudi Arabia’s security and stability are a
cornerstone of regional stability, reiterating the Arab League’s full
solidarity with the kingdom and support for its protective measures,
and hailing the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces for preventing the
attack.
