Al Balushi Secure Spots at Asian Games 100m Semifinals

Nagoya, 24 September 2026 (ONA) — Omani
athletes Ali Al Balushi and Mulham Al Balushi have qualified for the men’s 100m
semifinals after topping their respective heats at the 20th Asian Games
currently taking place in Aichi Nagoya 2026, Japan.

Ali Al Balushi won his heat with a
time of 10.06 seconds, finishing ahead of South Korea’s Daniel Puisa (10.23
seconds) and Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Abdullah (10.32 seconds).

Mulham Al Balushi also topped his
heat with a time of 10.29 seconds, beating India’s Singh Gurderveer (10.38 seconds)
and Iran’s Hassan Taftian (10.49 seconds).

In the women’s 100m event, Mazoon Al
Alawi finished 7th in her heat—which included seven
competitors—clocking a time of 12.02 seconds, while Bahrain’s Edidiong Odiong
won the heat with a time of 11.46 seconds.

Meanwhile, the national beach
volleyball team (Team A) launched its Asian Games campaign with a victory over
the Philippines, winning two sets to nil in today’s match.

Our national team is set to face
Qatar next Sunday (27 September 2026) at a match that will decide the group
winner.

Tomorrow, Friday 25 September, our
national cricket team will induct its historic debut at the Asian Games by
facing Hong Kong in the Group B qualifiers at the Gujo gi ground in Aichi
Prefecture.

Ten teams are contesting the men’s
cricket competition. The draw placed the Omani team in Group B alongside
Malaysia and Hong Kong.
