Five missing as flash floods sweep central Nepal

Amman, Oct. 11 (Petra) — At least five people are missing after
flash floods hit central Nepal on Sunday, sweeping away dozens of
homes just weeks after widespread flooding killed hundreds across the
country, Nepalese authorities reported.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Director
Dharam Raj Uprety said a landslide blocked a local river, causing it
to overflow, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported. The floodwaters
swept away about 45 homes and damaged three hydroelectric power
projects and four bridges.

Uprety confirmed that five people remain unaccounted for, while the
emergency management agency reported the rescue of at least 82
people, including nine foreign nationals.

Nepal is still recovering from severe flooding triggered by a glacial
burst on August 26, which left more than 1,400 people dead and 5,000
missing.
