World Travel Council Honors Former Jordanian Minister With Icon Award

Amman, Oct. 15 (Petra) — The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC)
granted former Jordanian Tourism Minister Taleb Rifai its Icon Award
for his efforts to unite governments and businesses behind global
tourism.

The council said in a statement Thursday that its Chairman Manfredi
Lefebvre and Gloria Guevara, president and CEO, presented the award.
The presentation took place at the council’s 26th Global Summit in
Valletta, Malta, late last week. More than 1,000 delegates attended,
including more than 200 senior chief executives from the sector and
government ministers.

Rifai served as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation,
Minister of Information, and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. He
later led the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as
Secretary-General.

The Icon Award recognizes individuals whose lifetime contributions
have shaped destinations, institutions, or the sector itself. It
honors those who leave a lasting impact on the industry and the
communities that support it.
