Amman, July 30 — UNICEF in Jordan and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) signed a new £1.5 million agreement on Wednesday to ensure continued water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services for over 100,000 Syrian refugees residing in the Zaatari and Azraq camps.

UNICEF Representative in Jordan, Philippe Duamelle, said the funding will allow the organization to sustain access to clean water and sanitation services for thousands of Syrian families, emphasizing that such services are vital to the health, dignity, and well-being of children and their communities.

He thanked the British government for its continued partnership with UNICEF in Jordan over the years.

British Ambassador to Jordan, Philip Hall, stated that the partnership reflects the United Kingdom’s commitment to helping refugees in Jordan live with dignity and access life-sustaining water resources.

The funding will cover the operation and maintenance of centralized water and wastewater systems in both camps from July 2025 through March 2026. The support comes at a critical time, as humanitarian operations in Jordan continue to face significant funding shortfalls despite persistent urgent needs.
