Ajloun, Feb. 9 (Petra) – Director of the Kufranjah Agriculture Directorate, Mohammad Momani, stated that the directorate has implemented several development projects aimed at improving the agricultural sector, enhancing vegetation cover, supporting farmers, and providing veterinary and advisory services to livestock breeders.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Sunday, Momani highlighted a labor-intensive project carried out in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and funded by the German government. The initiative targeted 1,200 dunums of unutilized treasury land in the Rajeb area for afforestation. Activities included land preparation, construction of contour lines and stone terraces, installation of an integrated irrigation network, and the erection of a 3,000-meter-long metal fence to protect seedlings. These efforts resulted in the planting of 40,000 saplings.
The project also created employment opportunities for approximately 500 individuals, including Jordanian and Syrian workers, with women comprising 30% of the workforce.
Expansion of Agriculture and Irrigation Projects
Momani noted that the directorate is implementing a project in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Six locations, covering a total area of 470 dunums, were selected in the district and rehabilitated with the planting of carob, sidr, oak, and sumac seeds. This initiative aims to enhance soil fertility, combat desertification, and promote sustainable agricultural production.
Additionally, significant attention has been given to irrigation projects. The directorate has lined 4,600 meters of deteriorating irrigation canals with concrete and installed 3,000 meters of plastic pipes to improve water transport efficiency and reduce waste.
These projects, with a total cost of JD170,000, have significantly improved water conservation efforts.
Furthermore, the land reclamation project included the construction of 53 rainwater harvesting reservoirs, providing farmers with an additional water source for irrigation.
Veterinary Services and Livestock Protection
In terms of livestock support, the directorate has vaccinated 20,000 sheep and goats against infectious diseases, tagged 6,000 animals for identification, issued 55 new vaccination record books, and conducted regular field visits to monitor livestock farms and ensure compliance with health standards.
