AND launches security, awareness drives to fight Crystal meth

Amman, July 26 (Petra) – The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND)
announced it has launched intensified operational and security
campaigns against the deadly and narcotic substance Crystal meth.

Held in cooperation with the Media and Community Police Department,
the initiative coincides with a specialized media awareness campaign
to warn of the dangers of this substance and its devastating and
fatal effects.

Today’s activity was launched as part of security and preventative
efforts aimed at phasing out this substance and apprehending all
suspects involved in handling and sale operations.

In its statement, the AND said the step aims to educate the public
about this substance’s dangers, raise community awareness about the
consumption risks, protect society, and take the strictest measures
against dealers and traffickers.

The department confirmed Crystal meth is “inherently deadly” and is a
highly toxic and detrimental chemical narcotic, which affects
physical, psychological, and mental health.

On adverse effects of consumption, the AND noted the substance causes
rapid addiction, severe cognitive and behavioral disturbances, and
affects bodily functions, particularly brain and lung damage. It also
triggers aggression, loss of control and consciousness, and causes
numerous heinous crimes.

As for its scope, the campaign focuses on 2 aspects: An operational
security effort to pursue all forms of dealing with the drug, mainly
trafficking, distribution, smuggling, and use; and an awareness goal
aimed to disseminate educational messages and media materials on the
dangerous consequences of consumption.

This move aims to enhance awareness and reinforce role of families
and community institutions in prevention and early intervention.

To ensure success, the AND urged the public’s engagement in this
campaign by promoting community awareness about the drug and
confidentially reporting suspects involved in trafficking,
distribution, or use by calling the unified emergency number 911.

The AND said all information will be treated with utmost seriousness
and confidentiality.
