Cairo, Dec. 30 (Petra) – The Arab League condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law that cuts electricity and water supplies to the offices of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), describing it as part of ongoing attacks against the agency over past years.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the League warned that the law, which took effect immediately after its approval, could have catastrophic consequences and would undermine UNRWA’s ability to carry out its mandate in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in the occupied territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, where its role in reconstruction efforts is vital and irreplaceable.
The Arab League called on the international community, including states, organizations, and institutions, to fulfill their legal and ethical responsibilities, counter Israel’s targeted actions against UNRWA, and take punitive measures to compel Israel to reverse these laws and comply with international law and legitimacy resolutions.
