Jerash, Feb. 3 (Petra) — Excavations in Jerash have uncovered the foundations of the city’s third Roman bridge, which once linked the archaeological site to the urban center. The discovery enhances the site’s historical significance and opens possibilities for restoration efforts aimed at extending visitor engagement.

Jerash Antiquities Director Mohammad Al-Shalabi told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the find represents a valuable addition to the city’s archaeological heritage. He noted that it underscores the historical importance of Jerash and strengthens the connection between the modern city and its ancient ruins.

The discovery is expected to facilitate further archaeological research, potentially revealing new details about the city’s infrastructure during the Roman era. Al-Shalabi emphasized the need for continued excavation and conservation efforts to preserve Jerash’s historical legacy.

As one of Jordan’s most significant tourist destinations, Jerash features landmarks from the Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic periods, attracting thousands of visitors annually from both within the Kingdom and abroad.
