Authorities bust illegal counterfeit cleaning product operation

Amman, July 26 (Petra) – The Jordan Standards and Metrology
Organization (JSMO) busted an unlicensed warehouse on Sunday in the
northern region illegally mixing and packaging counterfeit cleaning
products.

JSMO launched their operation following a complaint from the Royal
Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS). Inspectors discovered
an illicit facility mixing chemicals and filling second-hand
containers labeled with trademarked brand names.

Authorities seized 2,359 containers of fake detergents, shampoos, and
hair gels that violated national technical standards. Officials
confiscated two electric mixers, two digital scales, a packaging
machine, 35 sacks of empty bottles, 40 bundles of cardboard boxes,
and rolls of counterfeit brand labels.

JSMO is investigating the suspect’s claims that portions of the
inventory were purchased from independent sales representatives.
Samples have been sent to accredited laboratories for testing as
legal proceedings move forward.

Pledging its commitment to consumer protection, intellectual property
rights, and fair market competition, JSMO urged Jordanians to report
suspicious or non-compliant products via phone or WhatsApp at (06)
530-1243, the national “At Your Service” (Bekhedmatkom) e-government
platform, or via the “Sanad” mobile app.
