Azeri Ambassador Hails Jordan-Azerbaijan Ties as Model Cooperation, Commemorates Heydar Aliyev

Amman, May 7 (Petra) – Azerbaijani Ambassador to Amman, Eldar Salimov, Wednesday affirmed that Jordanian-Azerbaijani relations have become an exemplary model for bilateral cooperation, primarily due to the dedicated efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

He noted that this cooperation has seen remarkable advancement and an evident acceleration, particularly over the past two years.

Ambassador Salimov’s remarks came as the Azerbaijani Embassy in Amman commemorated the 102nd birth anniversary of former President Heydar Aliyev, revered as the “National Leader of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

The Ambassador highlighted that the late President Heydar Aliyev attached great importance to relations with Middle Eastern nations, with Jordan at the forefront.

He recalled a foundational meeting nearly 30 years ago between the late King Hussein bin Talal and President Heydar Aliyev in Casablanca during an Islamic Summit in Morocco.

Salimov emphasized the significant foreign policy strides made by President Heydar Aliyev in building a comprehensive socio-political, scientific, and cultural basis for strong relations between Azerbaijan and the Arab and Islamic world.

He expressed profound gratitude to the Jordanian government and the Greater Amman Municipality for naming a street in Amman’s New Bader area after President Heydar Aliyev, a gesture he said “crowns the deep fraternal relations and enduring friendship between the two countries.”

Describing the late leader, Ambassador Salimov portrayed President Heydar Aliyev as “a sincere public leader devoted to his people, committed to the causes of his homeland and nation, and an exceptional and unique political figure.”

He added that Aliyev enjoyed immense popularity among Azerbaijanis and dedicated his life to serving his country, achieving independence, and constructing its modern state. “Under his leadership, Azerbaijan entered a new era of its contemporary history and became an active member of the international community,” Salimov stated.

The Ambassador also recounted Heydar Aliyev’s significant achievements, secured through his political acumen, which positively impacted Azerbaijan across economic, social, and cultural spheres.

These included initially placing Azerbaijan on the global economic map, overseeing the construction of major industrial complexes, opening numerous cultural and social centers, and developing cities and villages. He also noted Aliyev’s strong focus on youth, ensuring their access to education in advanced institutes and universities.

Born on May 10, 1923, Heydar Aliyev served in prominent Soviet-era roles before leading Azerbaijan to renewed independence. He was elected Chairman of Parliament in June 1993, exercising presidential powers, and was subsequently elected President of the Republic in a popular referendum in October 1993, being re-elected in October 1998.
