KHARTOUM, July 23, 2026 (SUNA) – The Council of Ministers held its regular meeting in Khartoum on Thursday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris. Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Khalid Al-Eisir said the Cabinet reviewed a report on the state of health insurance in the country presented by Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Motassim Ahmed Saleh. He said the Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund briefed the Cabinet on the Fund’s partnerships with national institutions and international organizations to support its medical supplies plan, while Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim outlined his ministry’s role in supporting health insurance and related services to help improve outcomes for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Welfare and the National Health Insurance Fund. Al-Eisir added that a number of ministers contributed proposals aimed at improving service delivery, while Khartoum State Wali Ahmed Othman Hamza highlighted the state’s experience in establishing a dedicated health insurance fund. The minister said the Cabinet also reviewed plans for the Khartoum Medical City and Sudan Medical City projects. Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed briefed the meeting on the implementation plan and the remaining funding required to complete the Sudan Medical City project. The Cabinet also discussed the proposed Al-Hawad Integrated Development Project, presented by the project’s Governor, Dr. Mohamed Atta Al-Mannan, who outlined possible approaches for establishing the project, building partnerships with several countries, and benefiting from proposals submitted in this regard.Al-Eisir said the Cabinet further discussed a number of general policy directives, current developments in Sudan, and efforts to improve the operating environment and public services.BH/BH
