Ottawa, Jan. 6 (Petra) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as both the head of government and leader of the ruling Liberal Party after nine years in power.
According to Euro News, Trudeau will continue in his position until a successor is chosen by the party.
Speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Trudeau stated, “I intend to resign from my position as party leader and prime minister as soon as the party elects its next leader.”
This move comes after Trudeau faced increasing pressure in recent weeks, with the upcoming legislative elections approaching and his party’s approval ratings hitting their lowest point.
