Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS) Amina Mirghani Hassan Al-Tom, accompanied by First Deputy Governor Al-Motasem Abdullah Ahmed and in the presence of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Chairman of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Committee, Ali Khidr Ali Al-Tom, on Sunday inaugurated the headquarters of the Financial Information Unit (FIU) in Khartoum. The move reflects the return of state institutions and the resumption of their activities from the capital, Khartoum. The unit returned to Khartoum after continuing to carry out its functions and responsibilities from Atbara, River Nile State, during the war, maintaining continuity of its operations and its role in the national anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework. The CBOS Governor and her accompanying delegation inspected the facilities and arrangements completed at the headquarters, which enabled the unit to return and resume its operations from the capital. Al-Tom underscored the important role of the Financial Information Unit in protecting the financial system from financial crimes. The unit is responsible for implementing measures to combat money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of the proliferation of arms, as well as strengthening national and international cooperation and coordination in this field. She commended the efforts and dedication of the unit’s staff in restoring its systems and servers. The inauguration of the headquarters marks an important milestone in the unit’s work and sends a message affirming the recovery of state institutions and their continued discharge of their responsibilities and activities from Khartoum State.BH/BH
