Container Traffic at Aqaba Terminal Sees 85.9% Surge

Amman, Feb. 9 (Petra) – The number of containers imported through the Aqaba Container Terminal surged by 85.9 percent in January 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Jordanian Logistics Association (JLA).

The total number of imported containers rose to 41,519, up from 22,332 in January 2024. Exports also saw an increase, with container shipments rising by 19.4 percent to 8,204 containers, compared to 6,872 during the same period last year.

Nabil Khatib, head of the JLA, attributed the rise in imports and exports to improving stability in the Red Sea region, which has facilitated the steady arrival of container ships. He also noted a higher volume of containers transiting to Syria and the Palestinian National Authority through Aqaba, expecting further increases in the coming months.

Khatib emphasized the importance of enhancing human resources, upgrading handling equipment, and offering incentives for transit goods to capitalize on this growth. He stressed that revitalizing the port’s operations would significantly benefit Jordan’s economy, particularly the transport sector, which plays a crucial role in trade, services, and industry.

Established in 2007, the JLA represents shipping industry workers and works to enhance competitiveness and protect freight brokers. The syndicate is a member of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), a global non-governmental organization founded in 1926.
