Cairo, July 04 (QNA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met in Cairo on Saturday with European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica to discuss the latest regional and international developments of shared concern.

The two sides also addressed avenues for strengthening Egyptian-European relations.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the consultations covered developments in the US-Iran negotiation pathway.

In this regard, Abdelatty stressed the importance of constantly building on the momentum yielded by the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iranian sides to pave the way for more sustainable arrangements that help consolidate de-escalation, as well as security and stability in the region.

These arrangements, Abdelatty underlined, are essential to ensure freedom of navigation in accordance with the international rules-based order.

In addition, Abdelatty underscored the importance of refocusing international efforts on the Palestinian cause to create conditions conducive to accomplishing the full implementation of the first phase of the US President’s peace plan and the transition to the second phase.

For her part, Suica emphasized that the European Union is committed to continuing the strategic and comprehensive partnership with Egypt. (QNA)
