EU approves three-year security support mission in Lebanon

Amman, Oct. 12 (Petra) – The European Union decided on Monday to
establish a new support mission in Lebanon under the Common Security
and Defence Policy.

Operating with an initial three-year mandate, the mission seeks to
bolster the operational capacities of Lebanon’s military and security
institutions.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja
Kallas said that the mission will provide advisory services and
technical assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces and Internal
Security Forces. The initiative is designed to enhance territorial
control, border security, and domestic stability across the country.

The EU confirmed that the mission’s broader goal is to support state
institutions, foster long-term stability, and contribute to peace in
line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. In addition to
reinforcing ground forces, the mission will focus on improving
maritime security governance.

The mission will coordinate with EU bodies, member states, the UN,
and international partners to facilitate and streamline security
assistance to Lebanon, including aid channeled through the European
Peace Facility.
