In a statement to the MAP during the 27th edition of the Écrans Noirs African cinema festival, which runs until October 21 in Cameroon’s Yaoundé, Gourirran pointed out that the Kingdom has demonstrated its commitment to African cinema since the time when production rates were still very low.

Morocco, a filming location for many African cinematic productions, has provided substantial support for the growth of cinema on the continent, assured Mr. Gourirran, emphasizing that Moroccan companies and groups such as Royal Air Maroc and OCP have long provided significant financial support to numerous film festivals in Africa, such as FESPACO in Burkina Faso and Écrans Noirs in Cameroon.

“Today, Morocco, present at the vast majority of African film festivals, sees in the seventh art not only a form of artistic expression but also a parallel form of diplomacy,” he stated.

Moroccan cinematic work is significant in terms of its quality, which encourages many countries to draw inspiration from it, as evidenced by the film workshops organized as part of the International African Cinema Festival of Khouribga (FICAK), with the participation of a large number of African cinema actors, Gourirran noted.

Becoming a preferred destination for many African cinema students, Morocco strengthens its position as a leader in the film industry on the African continent, the Director of FICAK emphasized.
