Madani, 5 August 2026 (SUNA) – Wali of Al-Gezira State Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair discussed healthcare conditions and ongoing recovery efforts in the state during a meeting on Wednesday at the Guest House in Madani with Federal Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed, in the presence of Dr. Osama Abdelrahman Ahmed Al-Faki, Director General and Acting Minister of Al-Gezira State Ministry of Health. The meeting reviewed preparations for the opening of the Emergency and Trauma Hospital in Madani, continued coordination and support from the Federal Ministry of Health, efforts to combat disease vectors, and a project to rehabilitate 15 model primary healthcare centers to provide essential health services in Al-Hassahessa and Om Al-Qura localities. The Federal Health Undersecretary also participated in an expanded meeting at the Gezira Ministry of Health, where officials discussed the current health situation and reviewed reports on medical services across the state. Dr. Ali Babiker affirmed the Federal Ministry of Health’s commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the health sector in Al-Gezira State, stressing that the state has the potential to become a hub for specialized healthcare services due to its existing capabilities in areas such as cardiology, gastroenterology, paediatrics, and oncology. He noted that health institutions in the state have regained much of their capacity thanks to significant efforts by the state authorities, emphasizing the importance of expanding services through primary healthcare centers, rehabilitating these facilities, and implementing programs aligned with Sudan’s Five-Year Health Recovery Strategy.The Undersecretary also highlighted the importance of opening the Emergency and Trauma Hospital in Madani in the coming period to enhance specialized medical services and emergency response capacity.BH/BH
