FM, Qatari counterpart talk regional de-escalation

Amman, July 11 (Petra) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi on Saturday called Qatari
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani to discuss regional tensions.

The ministers talked about efforts to restore calm and end escalation
in the region, and ensure implementation of the June 15 ceasefire
agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

They stressed the importance of ending the dangerous escalation, and
warned of its consequences, calling for a return to the negotiating
table and adopting dialogue as the avenue to resolve the crisis.

Safadi commended Qatar’s ongoing efforts to ensure implementation of
the agreement, restore calm, and achieve stability.

The ministers reaffirmed the two countries’ solidarity in countering
all threats to their security and the security of the Gulf
Cooperation Council member states.

Also during the phone conversation, they tackled a number of
bilateral issues within the framework of their shared commitment to
strengthening the strategic brotherly relations between the two
countries.
