Food Security Lab 2026 to Begin on 1
November

Muscat, 28 October 2026 (ONA) — The
Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources will organize Food
Security Lab 2026, which will kick off on 1 November 2026.

This year’s edition focuses on
reviewing the food security sector’s strategic programme, assess the existing
investment projects and consider ways to address the relevant challenges.

The Lab will see the participation of
various government units, state-owned enterprises, private sector establishments
and civil society organizations. It will explore the potential of adding new
investment projects, the launch of specialized initiatives and the enhancement
of factors that support the sector’s growth, sustainability and production
efficiency.

The Lab aims to motivate
investments, integrate modern technologies into the development of food
security sectors, raise the volume of local output and promote converting
industries and the in-country value (ICV) of national products in a manner that
contributes to achieving the target goal of localizing the second billion of (OMR) investments
in the food security sector.

The Lab’s programme includes workshops that will focus on ways
to leverage investment opportunities, address existing challenges and
devise practical solutions and initiatives. It will also seek means to realize greater integration
among participating entities and accelerate the implementation of investment
projects in the forthcoming stage.

Acting in his capacity as General
Supervisor of the laboratory, Dr. Masoud bin Sulaiman Al Azri, Director General
of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing (official spokesperson for the Ministry
of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources), said that the “Food
Security Laboratory 2026” will be in pursuance of
similar laboratories launched in 2021. These initiatives resulted in the initiation
of 494 investment projects worth RO 1.87 billion—a testament to ongoing efforts
aimed to attract investment and develop sectors linked to food security, he
explained.
