Gold Prices Retreat as Dollar Rises
and Markets Await US Inflation Data
Singapore, 13 Oct 2026 (ONA) — Gold
prices fell today, weighed down by a stronger dollar, as investors await US inflation
data for fresh signals on the Federal Reserve’s interest rate path.
Spot gold declined 0.2 percent to
$4,164.45 per ounce, having recorded a one-week high in yesterday’s session.
US gold futures for December
delivery slipped 0.1 percent to $4,187.90. The dollar remained near the
18-month high it recorded in the previous session, making dollar-denominated
metals more expensive for holders of other currencies.
US Consumer Price Index data is due
for release tomorrow, Wednesday, followed by Producer Price Index data on
Thursday.
Gold tends to lose appeal when
interest rates are high, as investors gravitate towards yield-bearing assets.
The CME Group’s FedWatch tool shows
traders expect a 21 percent probability of a US rate hike this month, against
88 percent for an increase in December.
Among other precious metals, spot
silver declined 0.5 percent to $60.01, platinum fell 0.2 percent to $1,682.47,
and palladium dropped 0.5 percent to $1,137.69.
