Irbid, Jan. 6 (Petra) – The total value of certificates of origin issued by the Irbid Chamber of Industry last year reached $1.151 billion, marking a 2.6% increase compared to $1.122 billion in 2023.

According to the chamber’s report, the number of certificates of origin issued in 2024 was 15,297, compared to 12,650 in 2023.

The report highlighted that the textiles and leather sector retained its leading position, with exports valued at $1.027 billion. This was followed by the food, agricultural, and supply sectors at $43.2 million; therapeutic and medical supplies at $34.5 million; chemical industries and cosmetics at $21.2 million; engineering and electrical industries at $12.7 million; plastic and rubber industries at $9.7 million; packaging, paper, and stationery industries at $1.8 million; construction materials at $1.5 million; and mining industries at $400,000.

The Al-Hassan Industrial Estate accounted for the majority of exports, with approximately 94%, followed by Cyber City, contributing 5%.

The chamber’s president, Hani Abu Hassan, stated that export activity showed an improvement of about 2.6% in 2024 despite the ongoing political and security instability in the region, which affected international markets and shipping routes.

He noted that the growth in the total value of certificates of origin in 2024 was primarily driven by increases in five key sectors, including textiles and leather, therapeutic industries, plastics, and engineering industries, which collectively represent approximately 98% of the governorate’s exports.

Exports under the Arab Agreement grew by 24.2% year-on-year, reaching $89.5 million in 2024 compared to $72.1 million in 2023. Additionally, 82% of the total exports were conducted under trade agreements.
