Occupied Jerusalem, July 10 (Petra) — Israeli occupation forces on
Friday arrested the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian
Territories, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, who also serves as the preacher
of Al-Aqsa Mosque, following Friday prayer at the holy site.
The Palestinian Fatwa Council said in a statement that Sheikh Hussein
was detained immediately after delivering the Friday sermon and
leading prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
According to the statement, Israeli authorities accused the Grand
Mufti of “incitement,” an allegation cited by Israeli forces as the
reason for his arrest.
