Amman, Feb. 11 (Petra) – Jordan Customs Department (JCD) agents foiled an attempt to smuggle 700 cigarette cartons during operations of anti-smuggling patrols in the Kingdom’s northern region, who seized the target vehicle and took the necessary legal measures according to the rules.
In a statement Tuesday, the department called on citizens to report any customs violations or smuggling attempts on the toll-free number 105, as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve justice in the local markets and confront smuggling activities in all their forms.
The JCD added that these illegal acts “pose a threat to the national economy and harm the producing companies.”
In this context, the JCD noted smugglers escape monitoring of the competent authorities, fail to apply Jordanian specifications and standards and dodge payment of due customs fees, which constitute “a violation of law.”
