Amman, Feb. 10 (Petra) – The head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Fathi Jaghbir, praised the Cabinet’s recent decisions to amend regulations governing electricity supply under the Rural Electrification Fund (Fils Al Reef).
In a statement on Monday, Jaghbir also welcomed the establishment of the Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Facilities, emphasizing that it would contribute to achieving the country’s economic modernization vision through public-private partnerships.
He acknowledged the role of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in facilitating amendments to electricity supply regulations, aimed at supporting expanding industries and new manufacturing ventures while streamlining electricity access for citizens.
Under the revised regulations, electricity supply will be extended to industrial, investment, and production projects both inside and outside urban zoning areas. A new provision has been added to allow for a 25% contribution from the Rural Electrification Fund toward the construction or upgrade of power substations serving industrial development zones and new or expanding industrial projects. This measure is intended to encourage investment, create jobs, and reduce unemployment.
Jaghbir further noted that the decision to establish the Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Facilities will enable the execution of large-scale strategic infrastructure projects, including intercity public transport and railway networks. Other ventures, such as an exhibition city, will also be developed in partnership with the private sector. These projects are expected to stimulate economic activity and attract investment to the kingdom.
He stressed that these decisions are part of a series of positive measures taken by the government and its economic team to promote investment and support key economic sectors, particularly in light of prevailing domestic and regional economic challenges that require close cooperation and coordination.
