Amman, April 10 (QNA) – Jordan and the European Union have discussed efforts for de-escalation in the region, including an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.

The phone conversation between Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on Friday also addressed urgent humanitarian aid to Lebanon to help the Lebanese government meet the needs of more than one million internally displaced people.

Safadi stressed the need for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression and support for the Lebanese government in its efforts to assert its sovereignty over all its territory and ensure that weapons are solely in the hands of the state.

The two sides also discussed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. Safadi emphasized the necessity for the agreement to lead to a comprehensive solution that addresses all the root causes of tension over the past years and guarantees respect for international law, the sovereignty of states, and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
