Cairo, Feb. 12 (Petra) – Jordan took part in the opening session of the 115th meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Council at the League of Arab States headquarters in preparation for the upcoming ministerial meeting hosted by Cairo.

The Jordanian delegation was led by Dana Zoubi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.

During the opening session, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, highlighted the severe social, humanitarian, and economic repercussions of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza. She also pointed to the expansion of Israeli military operations affecting Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, significantly undermining economic and social development gains and hindering progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Abu Ghazaleh also noted the initiatives proposed by member states for the council’s ministerial agenda, which includes key economic and social issues. These include economic and social priorities for the upcoming Arab Summit in Iraq, investment in Arab countries, water security in the region, agricultural technology advancements, various economic agreements, and the Arab coordination mechanism for disaster risk reduction.
