Amman, February 10 (Petra) – Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a protocol in Abu Dhabi on Monday, amending certain provisions of the 1998 air services agreement between the two countries.

The protocol was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission Haitham Misto on behalf of Jordan and Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority Saif Al Suwaidi on behalf of the UAE.

According to a press release, the protocol aims to further develop air services, enhance the options available to passengers and cargo operators, and uphold the highest international safety standards in air transport.

Key amendments include the addition of new provisions aligning with the International Civil Aviation Convention and its annexes, particularly regarding aviation safety. Additionally, a joint code-sharing article was introduced, reflecting the air transport policies of both countries. This provision facilitates the seamless entry of designated air carriers from both nations into each other’s markets with fewer restrictions, allowing them to operate joint-coded flights between any points within the other party’s territory for international traffic.

The signing of this protocol underscores the commitment of Jordan and the UAE to strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, including civil aviation and air transport.
