Amman, Feb 11 (Petra) — Jordanian journalists staged protests on Tuesday in solidarity with Palestinians and to denounce plans to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

During rallies organized by the Jordan Press Association (JPA), journalists at local media institutions and newspapers voiced support of the Kingdom’s solid stance on the Palestinian issue, including the establishment of a Palestinian state on Palestinian soil with Jerusalem as its capital.

They stood behind His Majesty King Abdullah’s rejection of displacement, re-settlement or alternative homeland proposals, as a key national constant that Jordan has advocated for at various international forums.

They pointed to the “historical legacy and steadfast approach of the Jordanian state towards Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue and its jewel, Jerusalem, and the Kingdom’s faith that the Palestinian issue is a higher national interest and moral, Arab, Islamic and humanitarian issue.”

The protesters called on all Jordanians to stand united behind His Majesty to counter Israeli ambitions and designs to foment strife.

“Media is a key national arm to protect the country, solidify the internal front, spread awareness and bring society together behind the national Jordanian message to counter the notions of displacement or alternative homeland, said JPA President Rakan Sa’aideh.

He said the JPA will launch an interactive program for the Jordanian media and run events to highlight media’s role on the local scene, and help shape national positions to address current conditions in the region.
