Amman, June 14 (Petra) — First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of
Parliament Khamis Atiyeh said that Jordan’s Independence Day
represents a pivotal national milestone in the history of the modern
Jordanian state, which has continued its path of development and
modernization under wise Hashemite leadership while consolidating a
model founded on legitimacy, the rule of law, and respect for human
dignity.

Speaking during a celebration organized on Sunday by the Jordan
Educational Society and members of the local council of Al-Hussein
Police Station to mark the 80th anniversary of Independence and other
national occasions, Atiyeh said Jordan has advanced steadily and
resolutely, relying on prudent Hashemite leadership, an aware and
committed people, the Arab Army, and professional security
institutions that have consistently embodied sacrifice and national
belonging.

He added that independence symbolizes the story of a nation that
forged its sovereign decision through the will of its people and
continued a sustained process of state-building despite numerous
challenges, establishing a modern state that enjoys respect and
confidence at both regional and international levels.

Atiyeh noted that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King
Abdullah II, has succeeded in preserving its security and stability
in a region marked by conflict and profound transformations,
remaining a model of moderation, wisdom, and balance. He said these
achievements are the result of a clear leadership vision, continuous
efforts, and significant sacrifices made by the Jordan Armed Forces,
security agencies, and Jordanian citizens.

Reflecting on the anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s
accession to the throne, Atiyeh highlighted the progress achieved in
the political, economic, and administrative modernization tracks,
which have strengthened the state’s ability to sustain development
and address emerging challenges.

He stressed that the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army and the security
services have always served as the nation’s protective shield and
guardians of its achievements, while the Great Arab Revolt
represented the starting point of a national journey led by the
Hashemites and rooted in the values of freedom, renaissance, and
dignity upon which the modern Jordanian state was founded.

Atiyeh emphasized that Jordan continues to play its Arab and
humanitarian role in defending the causes of the nation, foremost
among them the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, while simultaneously
advancing state-building, modernization, institutional development,
the rule of law, and broader political participation.

For his part, Jordan Educational Society President Mahmoud Al-Zboun
said Jordanians commemorate on this occasion key historical
milestones that laid the foundation for the modern Jordanian state,
particularly the Great Arab Revolt, which carried the message of
freedom, unity, and renaissance under the leadership of Sharif
Hussein bin Ali.

He noted that the Arab Army has remained faithful to the principles
and mission of the Great Arab Revolt, making sacrifices in defense of
Arab causes. He added that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership,
with its army, security agencies, and loyal people, continues its
journey of development and achievement despite various challenges.

Meanwhile, local council member of Al-Hussein Police Station, Rawhi
Al-Qadoumi, extended congratulations to His Majesty King Abdullah II
and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on the
national occasions. He affirmed that Jordan continues its path of
modernization and development under the King’s leadership and that
the Palestinian cause remains at the forefront of the Kingdom’s
priorities and steadfast positions.

He added that Jordan continues to defend the Islamic and Christian
holy sites in Jerusalem under the historic Hashemite Custodianship
and maintains its firm stance on regional and Arab issues.

The celebration featured a documentary film on Jordan’s independence;
patriotic poems recited by poets Saeed Yacoub and Hassan Salameh;
folkloric and musical performances by the Greater Amman Municipality
Heritage Group and students from Princess Alia School; and concluded
with honoring several participating individuals and institutions.
