Amman, Sep.22 (Petra) – Teams from Jordan Standards and Metrology
Organization (JSMO) have seized 5,000 expired vehicle tires and 300
car rims bearing counterfeit global brand names.

The JSMO, in a statement to “Petra” Tuesday, said the items were
confiscated during an inspection raid, supported by security
agencies, on 4 tire sales and storage sites in Amman.

The tires were stored improperly and concealed in secret warehouses
that “lacked even the most basic safety standards.”

The organization noted that inspection teams faced resistance to
prevent them from opening the warehouses and conceal the violations.

However, JSMO said its teams’ persistence, backed by security forces,
botched these attempts.

JSMO added that this operation prevented the non-compliant tires from
reaching citizens’ vehicles, affirming the “strictest” legal measures
would be taken against the violators in accordance with the Standards
and Metrology Law No. 22 of 2000 and its amendments.

The organization called for checking the four-digit production date
stamped on the tire sidewall. The first two digits indicate the week
of manufacturing, while the last two indicate the year (e.g., “2526”
signifies the 25th week of 2026).

Also advising the public to dodge purchasing tires stored for long
periods, the JSMO stressed the necessity of storing tires in shaded,
dry locations away from direct sunlight, high heat, and chemicals
such as oils and solvents, which can cause the rubber to crack and
deteriorate prematurely.

Furthermore, JSMO highlighted the need to visually inspect tires for
cracks or sidewall bulges, calling for buying these items from
authorized dealers and licensed stores that provide an official
invoice to safeguard consumer rights and verify the product’s origin.

violations or irregularities by contacting the unified complaints
