Offers to Reopen Regional Maritime Navigation if US Eases Military Pressure

Tehran,
22 Sep 2026 (ONA) — An Iranian official said today that Iran could reopen
maritime navigation in the region within seven days if the United States eases
military pressure and lifts the blockade it imposes on Iranian ports.

The
Iranian official told Reuters that “America must declare its desire to
resolve the matter diplomatically, and then agree on a timetable to move
forward with this process,” adding that the Iranian delegation
participating in the United Nations General Assembly meetings currently under
way in New York has full powers to revive the diplomatic track with the United
States.

The
official explained that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who left Tehran
for New York today, will not hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump at
the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The
official noted the possibility of discussing the details of an agreement to end
hostilities with Washington in New York through intermediaries. The official
mentioned that Tehran delivered its proposal in this regard to the US side via
intermediaries on 16 September 2026.

The
official said, “The United Nations General Assembly meetings are a golden
opportunity for the United States to return to diplomacy,” adding that
Tehran would welcome a revival of diplomacy if Washington takes tangible steps.

It
is worth noting that Iran’s central military command stated that it had
received information last Sunday indicating that the US is preparing to resume
military operations, and warned that this would lead to a retaliatory response
from Tehran.
