Amman, September 29 (Petra) – Inspection teams from the Ministry of
Labor, in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate (PSD),
have apprehended 60 domestic workers over the past few days, who had
outstanding “runaway” reports filed at security centers.

In a statement Tuesday, the ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Ziyoud
said these joint inspection rounds, implemented with the PSD, are
part of the ministry’s efforts to regulate the labor market, curb the
phenomenon of domestic workers absconding from their employers, and
protect these workers from exploitation in violation of applicable
laws.

He added that the ministry is continuing its inspection campaigns
through two committees, established under directive of the Minister
of Labor, tasked with addressing the issue of runaway domestic
workers.

Ziyoud stated inspection teams “closely” monitor social media
platforms and incoming reports regarding the employment of runaway
workers on an hourly or daily-wage basis, noting that these staff are
“actively working to locate whereabouts of these fugitive workers.

He further added that the ministry welcomes information on the
locations of runaway domestic workers through its labor offices and
directorates, or via the ministry’s official social media channels.
