Amman, Sept. 21 (Petra) — Non-Jordanian workers with irregular
employment status have until Sept. 30 to regularize their situation
before a government grace period expires, the Ministry of Labor said
Monday, warning that employers could face fines of at least JD800 for
each worker found in violation of the law.

Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Zyoud urged workers and employers to
complete the necessary procedures before the end of the working day
on Sept. 30, the deadline set under a Cabinet decision issued in
June.

To facilitate the process, labor directorates will remain open until
5 p.m. every day, including Saturdays, Zyoud said.

He also called on employers across all sectors, including households
employing domestic workers, to ensure that non-Jordanian workers
under their employment have regularized their legal status before the
deadline.

Workers who remain in violation after the grace period could have a
deportation flag placed on their records in the ministry’s electronic
systems, Zyoud said.

Employers found to have hired workers in violation of the law face a
fine of no less than JD800 for each worker, he added.
