Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Professor Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, affirmed the ministry’s commitment to developing the dairy sector as one of the promising sectors contributing to food security and job creation. The Minister made the remarks while addressing on Sunday at the ministry’s headquarters in Khartoum a training course on “Dairy Products Processing Technology”, organised by the ministry in cooperation with the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), with the participation of the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris, staff from extension directorates at the centre and states, animal production directorates, researchers and specialists, as well as the Director of Animal Resources at ACSAD, Dr. Mohamed Al-Nasri. The Minister stressed the need to utilise modern technologies, improve local breeds, provide veterinary and extension services, and support small-scale producers to increase production and productivity. Al-Mansouri called for the development of the dairy products industry and improving quality throughout production, processing, packaging, and distribution stages, in a manner that enhances its competitiveness in domestic markets and the markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.He explained that Sudan produces hundreds of thousands of tonnes of milk and dairy products annually. The Minister emphasised the importance of adhering to health requirements, quality standards, and food safety regulations in line with international specifications, describing this as the main pathway for developing exports, increasing foreign currency revenues, and supporting the national economy. For his part, Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris highlighted the importance of dairy processing technology in increasing productivity and improving producers’ incomes, urging participants in the training course to benefit from it and apply its outcomes in the states. Meanwhile, Director of Animal Resources at ACSAD, Dr. Mohamed Al-Nasri, stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination with the ministry in all fields, particularly dairy processing technology and transferring successful Arab experiences. Dr. Al-Nasri said Sudan possesses distinguished dairy-producing cattle and goat breeds, which qualifies it to play a key role in achieving food security at both regional and global levels.BH/BH
