Minnawi: The Return of Theatre Means the Return of Life to the Capital

Khartoum, July 23, 2026 (SUNA) – Darfur Region Governor and Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Army Movement, Minni Arko Minnawi, said that the return of theatre symbolizes the return of life to the capital, stressing that culture, the arts, and poetry play a vital role in reviving society and promoting the values of peaceful coexistence and national unity. He made the remarks while receiving in Khartoum a delegation from the Ibhar Foundation for Literature, Arts and Children’s Theatre, which honored him in recognition of his contributions to supporting the Sudan National Theatre and Children’s Theatre. His support included providing seating and lighting systems that helped rehabilitate the theatre and enabled it to resume its cultural activities. Minnawi welcomed the delegation, emphasizing that supporting cultural and artistic institutions is a national duty. He said that rehabilitating the theatre forms part of broader efforts to restore normal life and strengthen the role of culture in building peace and reinforcing social cohesion. For his part, the head of the Ibhar Foundation said the recognition of Minnawi comes as part of a program to honor a number of national figures and public personalities for their contributions to supporting culture and the arts. He noted that Minnawi’s support for the Sudan National Theatre had a tangible impact on reviving the cultural landmark and enabling it to resume its artistic mission.BH/BH
