Amman, June 2 (Petra) – A specialized surgical team at the Royal
Rehabilitation Center successfully removed a rare, recurrent
malignant fibrous histiocytoma from a nine-year-old patient,
utilizing intraoperative cryoablation to secure clean margins and
prevent local recurrence.

Lt. Col. Dr. Mohammad Al-Alwan, Head of Orthopedic Oncology and
Reconstruction, stated that the procedure was highly complex due to
the tumor’s location in the mid-forearm, where it closely enveloped
major nerves and arteries. Al-Alwan noted that the surgery achieved a
complete resection with safe margins while fully preserving the
functional use of the limb.

Lt. Col. Dr. Ali Al-Qudah, an Orthopedic Oncology Specialist,
highlighted that the primary challenge stemmed from the tumor’s
aggressive local recurrence following previous interventions. He
explained that applying extreme freezing technology to the surgical
margins post-excision was critical to minimizing the chances of
another recurrence.

Col. Dr. Lamis Arabiat, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgeon, explained that immediate reconstructive surgery was
performed on the affected tissue to restore full mobility to the hand
and forearm, prioritizing long-term physical recovery for the child.

Col. Dr. Adnan Zayadeen, Consultant Diagnostic Radiologist, added
that seamless interdisciplinary coordination and advanced imaging
were pivotal to navigating the complex operation, reflecting the
ongoing technical advancement of the Royal Medical Services in
managing intricate oncological cases.
