Milan, 7 October 2026 (ONA) — The
Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Ministry
of Culture today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the fields of heritage
and museums. The signing ceremony took place during the visit of Oman’s Heritage
and Tourism Minister, Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, to the Italian
Republic.

The MoU was signed by Oman’s Minister
of Heritage and Tourism, Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, and Italy’s Minister
of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.

The MoU aims to foster the exchange
of knowledge and expertise in the management, preservation and restoration of
cultural heritage, the development of museums and the organization of exhibitions.
The MoU also seeks to build national capacities in the fields of archaeology, heritage
conservation and the establishment and restoration of museums, in addition to facilitating
the exchange of expertise.

The two ministers discussed the implementation
of an executive programme on outlining cooperation initiatives and explored
opportunities to leverage the Italian expertise, notably for developing Oman Maritime Museum.

The discussions covered ways to
improve the management of heritage sites and the implementation of training and
residency programmes for Omani personnel operating in the field of joint
archaeological research in managing terrestrial and underwater sites.
