Ankara, July 08 (QNA) – The member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to the principle of collective defense, in accordance with Article Five of the Alliance’s Treaty.
  They called on Iran to accord full respect to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In its final communique, the Alliance affirmed that its member states had announced new defense procurements valued at more than $50 billion, to augment military capabilities and enhance the readiness of NATO forces.
The communique also indicated the commitment of the member states to work with the industrial sector to increase production capacity, thereby contributing to meeting defense requirements and boosting the security of the Alliance’s member states during the coming phase.
The communique further indicated that the Allies are implementing the Hague Defense Pledge to address the long-term Russian threat to the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic region, in addition to the persistent threat of terrorism, noting that the European Allies and Canada increased their investments in essential defense requirements during 2025 by more than $139 billion.
The alliance explained that these investments contribute to providing the required military capabilities, strengthening defense industries and strategic resilience.
Today in Ankara, the alliance announced new supply agreements valued at more than $50 billion, in addition to working with the industrial sector to augment collective production capacity and accelerate the pace of innovation.
In addition, the Alliance affirmed its determination to continue removing barriers to defense trade among the member states and to benefit from NATO partnerships to beef up cooperation and expand the defense industrial base.
It indicated that NATO’s deterrence and defense rest on a combination of nuclear, conventional and missile defense capabilities, supported by space and cyberspace capabilities.
  The states said they are committed to providing €70 billion to Ukraine during 2026, including military equipment, assistance and training, while affirming that support will continue at no less than the same level during 2027.
Regarding the Middle East, the communique affirmed that the Alliance continues to adapt to strategic competition, instability, hybrid threats and recurring crises, reiterating that Iran shouldn’t possess a nuclear weapon, and called on Tehran to accord full respect to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
