New medical breakthrough at Princess Raya Hospital

Irbid, July 11 (Petra) — The Princess Raya Government Hospital’s
neurology clinic has made a new breakthrough added to staff successes
through diagnosing a multi-year undiagnosed rare condition.

Neurologist Dr. Aref Beshtawi clinically followed up on the case,
where the patient underwent a series of laboratory tests and
radiological imaging, resulting in a diagnosis of schwannoma, a
slow-growing benign tumor that develops on the protective sheath
(myelin sheath) of a nerve, Hospital Director, Dr. Muhammad Abu
Halawa, told Petra in an interview.

It typically arises in the peripheral nervous system, but can affect
any nerve in the body. Symptoms depend on the tumor’s location, but
frequently include localized pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or a
visible lump.

It is considered one of the conditions that can be hard to diagnose
as its symptoms are similar to many other neurological diseases, said
Abu Halawa.

Based on the diagnosis, the patient was referred to the appropriate
medical facility for further treatment, and the treatment journey was
successful, and the patient is now in good health, with years of
suffering coming to an end and no complications, he said.

The success showed a need to carefully listen to the patient, conduct
a comprehensive clinical assessment, and link symptoms to appropriate
diagnostic investigations, said Beshtawi, who is head of the
Neurology Clinic at the governmental hospital.

Correct diagnosis is the most crucial step in the treatment process,
he stressed.

“We are proud of being a reason for ending this patient’s years of
suffering. This breakthrough corroborates that accurate diagnosis is
the basis of successful treatment, and it reflects the high level of
competence and expertise of the medical staff in Ministry of Health
hospitals, with a keen commitment to providing the best healthcare to
people,” said Beshtawi.

This achievement, along with the advanced diagnostic and treatment
services at the outpatient clinics of Princess Raya Governmental
Hospital, embodies the staff’s adherence to quality standards,
support of advanced healthcare services and best possible treatment
for patients,” he added.
