Readiness of Electoral System

Muscat, 28 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The
Elections Committee of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) held its
first meeting under the chairmanship of Eng. Ghalib Said Al Maamari,
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion
for Commerce and Industry and Head of the Committee, as part of preparations
for organizing the Chamber’s electoral process and following up on the organizational
and technical procedures associated with it.

The meeting examined the
requirements for establishing an integrated electoral system that ensures the
elections are conducted in accordance with the approved legal and regulatory
frameworks, thereby enhancing the participation of the business community in
selecting its representatives in the Chamber.

During the meeting, the Committee
reviewed the key requirements and preparations related to the electoral
process, the work plan for the forthcoming phase, and the organizational and
technical procedures necessary for implementing its various stages. It also
discussed the roles and tasks assigned to the Committee and the mechanisms for
coordination and integration among the relevant entities, in a manner that
contributes to unifying efforts, raising the level of readiness, and ensuring
the smoothness and clarity of procedures.

The Committee further examined
the timeline for the stages of the electoral process and the associated organizational
procedures and deadlines, with the dates and details pertaining to the
electoral process to be announced in accordance with the approved procedures,
thereby enabling the business community to prepare for and participate in its
various stages.

The Committee also devoted
particular attention to the technical and digital aspects of the electoral
process, discussing mechanisms for employing modern electronic systems and
means to facilitate voting procedures and enhance their efficiency and speed of
completion.

This comes in light of the recent
amendments to the regulatory bylaw governing the Elections Committees of Oman
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which authorized the Committee to adopt
electronic voting devices and other technical means and electronic systems used
in the electoral process, as well as approving a remote voting system, in a
step that copes with the rapid development of digital services in the Sultanate
of Oman.

Eng. Ghalib affirmed that the
Committee is proceeding with the completion of the various organizational,
technical and technological requirements of the electoral process, in
accordance with the legislation governing it and in coordination and
integration with the relevant entities, so as to foster a clear and well-organized
electoral environment and facilitate voters’ exercise of their electoral right
with ease and convenience.

He stated that the forthcoming
phase will witness integrated work to complete the readiness of the electoral
system in all its components, with a focus on the clarity and efficiency of
procedures and the optimal utilization of digital solutions and modern
technologies, thereby enhancing ease of participation and keeping pace with the
digital development witnessed by the government services and procedures system
in the Sultanate of Oman.

He added that the committee
attaches great importance to the integration of roles among the relevant
entities and to raising the level of readiness at all stages of the electoral
process, ensuring its efficient and well-organized implementation and
reinforcing the business community’s confidence in the procedures adopted. He
noted that the employment of modern technologies represents a key pillar in
developing and facilitating the electoral process and in delivering its
services to voters in a more flexible and efficient manner.

The committee exercises the
competences stipulated in the regulatory bylaw governing the Elections
Committees of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and oversees the procedures
related to the electoral process and follows up on their implementation in
accordance with the approved legal and regulatory frameworks.

The commencement of the committee’s
work represents a fundamental step in the path of preparing for the elections,
leading to an electoral system characterized by efficiency, clarity and ease of
procedures, and benefiting from the capabilities offered by modern digital
solutions, thereby enhancing the participation of institutions and individuals
of the business community in the electoral process and in selecting their
representatives in Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
