Yemen Sign Agreement for Electrical Interconnection Project

Salalah,
6 Sep 2026 (ONA) — The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen signed today
in Salalah two joint cooperation agreements related to the electrical
interconnection project between the electricity grid in Dhofar Governorate and
the electricity grid in Al Mahra Governorate in the Republic of Yemen, within
the framework of joint cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations
between the two countries.

The
first agreement was signed on the Omani side by Eng. Ali Issa Shammas, CEO of
Nama for Dhofar Services, and on the Yemeni side by Othman Mohammed Owaid,
Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation in Al Mahra Governorate.
The second agreement was signed on the Omani side by Ahmed Salim Al Abri, CEO
of Nama for Power and Water Procurement, and on the Yemeni side by Eng. Mohsen
Ali Balhaf, Director of the Yemen Petroleum Company in Al Mahra Governorate.

The
project comes within the framework of efforts aimed at enhancing cooperation in
the field of electrical power, and supporting the stability and provision of
electricity supplies in the beneficiary areas of Al Mahra Governorate through
interconnection with the electricity grid in Dhofar Governorate.

The
agreement includes delivering electrical power to a number of areas in Al Mahra
Governorate, including the cities of Hawf and Shahn, as a first phase, through
the electricity distribution network, with loads estimated at 3 megawatts for
the Hawf area and 5 megawatts for the Shahn area, and to Al Ghaydah with loads
reaching up to 50 megawatts.

The
project embodies the importance of partnership and cooperation between the two countries
in the electrical power sector, and this agreement represents an enhancement of
infrastructure in the energy sector and the fulfillment of electrical needs in
the beneficiary areas, aiming at stability, development, and the advancement of
social and commercial sectors.
